Creating a Sequence

Build a multi-step email sequence with timed delays and conditional logic to automate your outreach.

Sequence builder

Create a New Sequence

  1. Go to Email > Sequences or say "Create a new sequence" in the chat
  2. Enter a name for the sequence (e.g., "Enterprise Outreach")
  3. Configure the sequence settings
  4. Add your steps
  5. Click Save

Step Types

Sequences support three types of steps:

Email Steps

Write the email that will be sent at this step. Use merge fields like {{contact.first_name}} and {{contact.company}} to personalize each message. Each email step includes a subject line and body.

Delay Steps

Set a waiting period between emails. You can specify the number of days to wait. Delays can use business days (skipping weekends) or calendar days.

Condition Steps

Add branching logic based on engagement. For example, you can check whether the contact opened a previous email and either continue the sequence or skip to the end.

Configure Settings

Before activating your sequence, configure these options:

  • Send from -- Choose whether emails are sent from the sequence owner's account or the account of the person who enrolled the contact
  • Send window -- Set the hours during which emails can be sent (e.g., 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM)
  • Timezone -- Choose the timezone for the send window
  • Business days only -- Skip weekends when calculating delays
  • Stop on reply -- Automatically unenroll contacts who reply
  • Stop on bounce -- Automatically unenroll contacts whose emails bounce

I've created the "Enterprise Prospects" sequence with 3 email steps and 3 business-day delays. You can edit each step's content now.

Pro Tip

Start with 3-4 steps. Shorter sequences tend to perform better than long ones with many follow-ups.
